The Arizona Overseeding Schedule
If you book a golf trip to Phoenix or Scottsdale in October, you are making a mistake.
Desert courses transition from Bermuda grass (summer) to Rye grass (winter). To do this, they scalp the Bermuda down to dirt, plant Rye seeds, water it constantly, and close the course for 2-4 weeks.
When they reopen, it's Cart Path Only for at least another 2 weeks to protect the fragile baby grass. Rounds take 5.5 hours.
The Timeline
| Phase | Timing | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Scalping | Late Sept | Thin, brown lies. Fast but ugly. |
| Closure | Oct (varies) | Course closed entirely. |
| Reopening | Late Oct / Nov | Lush green, but strictly Cart Path Only. |
